Wooden Porch Swings And Frame

Wooden porch swings, or patio swings, can make all the difference in the world as to whether or not you actually enjoy sitting outside on the front porch. What better way to enjoy the afternoon than relaxing on the patio and watching the day go by.

The Value Of The Wooden Porch Swing

There once was a time when all your neighbors parked it outside on the front porch just to watch the day go by and say hello to everyone who passed in front of their home. Where did the time go. Now, houses are being built so close together and people get so busy that there's no room or time to even slow down and put back into practice simply enjoying someones company and just sit a bit on the front porch swinging and waving to everyone that passes by. Maybe that's what's wrong with the world today. We simply don't take the time to relax and enjoy and get to know one another. I say we fight back and starting today, make it a plan to sit outside on a new wooden porch swing and slow down. Get to know one another. Maybe it'll be a good thing for the whole neighborhood you live in. You never know.

Enough reminiscing though, if you want to be a part of the slow-down and enjoy-it revolution, than take a look at these front porch swings.

First Things First

You'll find these days that porch swings are getting more and more fancy. That can both be a good and bad thing. Like take for instance, some of these now come with canopies. Do you really need a canopy if you are going to be covered already on your front porch? I don't think so. Some wooden porch swings also come with cushions or padding. Is it a necessity to have this? I don't think it is since you can purchase swing cushions separate if you really need one. Plus, this will give you a chance to get something that matches everything else you may have out front. The main thing to think about I believe is whether or not you want the swing to attach directly to the cover over the patio or be movable by being attached to a frame.

Lakeland Mills 4-Foot Cedar Log Porch Swing, Natural
Made from a renewable resource and byproduct of the log home industry, this white cedar swing is both insect and weather resistant. The Lakeland Mills comes in both the 4 foot and 5 foot models. It's seat slats are curved providing for much better comfort as you sit and enjoy the day. One of the good features on this swing that you'll notice right off is that the chains attach at the top. This is a big plus as when you swing you typically (inadvertently) grab the chains, and that can sometimes cause a nasty finger pinch. With these, you get a nice wood pole to hold on to.

5 Ft Cypress Rolled Wooden Porch Swing

Here's another 5 Ft wooden porch swing that's actually 100% hand crafted. It's made from beautiful cypress lumber. 2 good points about this swing: 1- it's contoured to fit your bottom a bit better, won't make you feel like you are sitting on a flat bench. 2- It's unfinished, makes it easy to add your own stain or paint to the matching color of your front porch. There's no nails on this one, constructed solely of screws and bolts for a much more sturdy swing.

  • 56" wide inside seat
  • 18 1/2" deep seat
  • 19" high back
  • 60.5" total length

Jack Post Jennings Traditional Wooden Porch Swing

This is a great, fairly inexpensive, traditional wooden front porch swing. This swing also comes in either the 4 Ft or 5 Ft models and is made from solid unfinished fir. That means that you'll also be able to either paint or stain it to one of your favorite colors right out of the box. All the hardware is included with these models and it doesn't look too difficult to assemble.

These swings hang easily from either a porch rafter or accompanying swing frame (sold separately). If you do go with the frame model you could easily move it out into the yard or around the deck to whatever fits your fancy for the day. The only downfall is that the seat itself is not contoured, it's more of a bench. You can get a better look at it in the bigger picture just below. Here's the specifications of each swing:

  • 5ft swing seat measures 21.5 x 60.75 x 17.75 inches
  • 4ft swing seat measures 21.5 x 48 x 17.75 inches

This is a nice swing for the price.

I wish that we had a front porch instead of just an entry way. Most often we sit in the backyard. Like you, I think that the good old fashioned days of neighbors greeting neighbors and seeing one another more often were a plus rather than the more isolated ways that many of us live today.

Couldn't agree more Peggy! Could be less problems in the world today if people would just get to know each other a little.

This is a terrific Hub. We don't have a porch, but I've always thought they were charming.
